Identity First Language

I, and most of the autistic people I know prefer Identity First Language – They are autistic people, I am autistic. Person First Language is insulting to many of us (using ‘Person with autism’). Autism is integral to our identity.

Please note: If an autistic person wishes to use PFL it is important to respect that and refer to them that way. That’s their choice 🙂

I made these pins to show people that we are autistic and this is how we wish to be referred to.
They’re available from Etsy

  2. Thank you, Beth. Thank you for opening my eyes and thoughts to the subtle, but not so subtle, differences among identifying expressions of autism. The more I re-read your “strip,” the more I understand the differences.
    Thanks again,
